Clare County Council welcomes €2.9 million allocation under Community Recognition Fund
Clare County Council has welcomed the recent announcement (Thursday, 18th May) by the Department of Rural and Community Development of the allocation of €2.9 million to County Clare community groups and organisations under the Community Recognition Fund.
The major initiative is designed to support and reward communities that have welcomed families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries.
The projects range from large-scale multi-purpose sports facilities to upgrades to community centres, equipment for sports clubs, outdoor walkways, playgrounds, community buses and equipment for festivals.
Among the successful Clare grant applicants are:
- Ennis Scouts – funding for transport infrastructure including a trailer, wheelchair ramp, CPR training equipment, and portable suitcase wheelchair ramps
- Lisdoonvarna – Funding for the restoration, repairs, and replacement of damaged parts and pieces of equipment in the community playground
- Shannon Tidy Towns – funding for the development of a base for the Tidy Towns group
- Ballyvaughan – funding for the upgrading of community facilities with a multi-use games area (MUGA)
- West Clare Family Resource Centre – funding for portable sensory pods and associated equipment
- Killaloe – funding for the development of a sensory garden.
Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Tony O’Brien, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, said, “This funding allocation is very positive news for communities in County Clare who have worked tirelessly to strengthen the sense of belonging for our guests from Ukraine. I am delighted to see so many communities successful in their grant applications and I look forward to seeing the funding going to use in the near future.”
Pat Dowling, Chief Executive, Clare County Council, said, “I would like to commend the contribution of communities across the county in responding to high levels of new arrivals of Ukrainian nationals. I look forward to seeing the funding of these community projects progressing and being delivered for the benefit of all across County Clare.”
Jason Murphy, Acting Director of Service for Rural Development, Clare County Council, noted that “there has been a significant level of interest in this particular grant across the county and huge efforts by groups to welcome and integrate people into our county. The level of funding reflects this effort but it is clear that we can deliver more if the supports and additional funding are made available. We will continue to work with groups through our Rural and Community Development Officers to develop applications under other streams such as Sports Capital, Town and Village Renewal and CLÁR.”
The €50 million Community Recognition Fund has been allocated across all local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there.
The Fund, administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development, follows an extensive consultation process with local authorities who submitted their individual list of projects for approval.
